Once again link fraud in the name of copyright.
Another classic scam email came in today. The scam is always the same: you have allegedly used an image without authorisation. A link to “imgur.com” should suffice as proof. This is a free image hosting service. Anyone can upload images here.
I represent the Intellectual Property division. We have identified an
image belonging to our client on your website.
But don’t worry, all you have to do is insert a link into the website. A classic case of link fraud. Ultimately, the scammers just want a free link to their website. Good for the Google ranking.
As always, simply ignoring the email is the best option here. Just don’t get nervous.
